Good news for California Teachers! Here is a Special Legal Notice to California Teachers: How to Get at Least a $300 refund of CTA Nonbargaining Expenses. Good information for teachers in other states also at the link, and below.
Even if your union has a stranglehold on your state--if you don’t have a Right To Work in your chosen career without paying them blood money (and considering the typical union position on Abortion truly it is blood money), most states do permit you one choice:
While you may have to pay the full dues amount, in some states you may be able to opt out of donating the portion of your dues that is allocated to lobbying and political campaigns--and instead designate them to a charity of your choice. Check regularly with that charity directly, make sure they are getting the money.
It may take some persistent effort to get confirmation of this and to get the form. And you should watch your paycheck like a hawk for any deductions and know what they really mean.
Another thing--watch how much money the union is spending on political activities. If they SAY something ridiculous like nine cents of every month’s two hundred dollars dues payments is all that goes for politics, start your own private tally of where you see the union spending money....conventions, meetings, rep salaries and vehicles, school site rep conferences in hotels, trips to meet with legislators, etc. Information like that might make interesting reading for others presently under the union thumb.
Best source of information is National Right To Work... NRTW.org This link takes you to their national map and site.
