I WANT TO SPANK SPOCK.
Every honest statistical model you can find will not be bell-shaped, it will be heavily skewed showing a direct relationship between parental and teacher leniency and child deviance. The lesson we are now teaching best, by default, is impunity.
Almost half, yes HALF the states in the USA right now STILL have corporal punishment. The rest desperately need it back. We all know deep down that sometimes that is exactly what is really needed to establish valid, benevolent authority and appropriately punish a child--on campus or off. Corporal punishment helps train a child up properly before he/she goes badly wrong and ends up on Death Row awaiting capital punishment. Tough love is love. Wimping out on appropriate discipline is not love, it’s cowardice and a form of child abuse. From a selfish standpoint, it also guarantees your neighborhood a worse local crime problem as lawless children grow older and more sophisticated.
Yet there is an even deeper matter: did you know that it’s very likely that your union does NOT want corporal punishment or other effective discipline? How hard have they lobbied for this lately? Has it been brought up every year? No? Perhaps they would rather have you miserable and desperate to have ‘smaller class sizes’ so they can get more dues-paying members for the same number of students. Perhaps they would rather have chaos and dissatisfaction so that they can force their ‘social engineering’ down upon more unwary, frustrated people. Teacher burnout and turnover? Not a big concern, it would seem.
And thus the union tries to increase their power over you and all of society. Instead of a wooden paddle, they hold a financial gun to your head and extort money from you every paycheck.
It’s megalomaniacal. It’s sociopathic. It is your union against you.
AND--it can and must be stopped. You do not have to be their pawn and serf. See the Right To Work page.
