In Loco Parentis

	In Loco Parentis does *not* mean 'My Folks Are Crazy' -- it refers to the long-standing responsibility of adults in society to help with parenting when proximity and duty require it. Such is definitely the case on campus, when teachers are legally responsible for their pupils. Sadly, some parents care less about their own children than the teacher cares for them. Sadly, some parents are not present, whether due to a broken home or a home that never was established. We do the best we can. We can do better. And we can do MUCH better by continuing to support parental discipline including corporal punishment off campus. We can do much better by getting parental support to help us get corporal punishment back on campus. Soft-headedness is not love.
