This is not your grandfather’s classroom. The Sheepskin Culture needs to leave the Papyrus Age and use the virtual consumables made possible by Free Open Source Software (FOSS) and some exciting very inexpensive technology just coming onto the market. If you want more information on the news this site is privy to, join our mailing list without obligation. Opt out anytime.
Soon to be released is information about a new “Open Source Software” type of project that lets teachers put their best lesson plans in a repository available to other teachers. While there are many such lesson plan sites already, this one also utilizes a hardware/software solution that automatically distributes the worksheets, grades them and assigns make-up work all without teacher effort.
Estimated per-student cost is less than $60.00 per year for technology, software and content, which is designed to replace all textbooks and inaugurate truly paperless classrooms (except for major special assignments and standardized tests).
The savings to the districts will amount to millions of dollars per year--and to teachers dozens of hours per month.
If--and only if--there is no stealthy payola or ‘kickback’ from textbooks and computer purchases, then this system will prove enormously popular. We encourage everyone to follow the money and watch the spenders.
