IS IT POSSIBLE that the hidden real reason kids lug home ten pounds of textbooks that cost as much as $85.00 each is some sort of payola scheme? Let’s follow the money and find the facts.
An observation: everywhere but in our K-12 schools, ‘Distance Learning’ is the rage. You can take just about any course online for professional/continuing education, from colleges, trade/technical schools and personal enrichment.
But like factory farms, most K-12 kids are being forced to be a warm body physically sitting in a classroom, eager learner or not.
It’s not that books are bad--they are wonderful! Trees are crops to be managed and harvested much like field crops. But let’s print new books only when really necessary, not on some printing company’s schedule--that could be an unnecessary waste of resources.
As we face the need to cut costs everywhere, let’s seriously consider distance learning and other technology--inexpensive technology, not stuff that costs $30,000+ per classroom!
IS IT POSSIBLE that the reason school districts are spending millions on high-powered computers when cheaper alternatives are available some sort of payola scheme? Follow the money and find the facts.
Likewise, is it possible that someone benefits by helping promote the idea of ‘smaller classes’ even when MOST in your classes are just fine? Big new buildings with tiny huddles of kids don’t necessarily provide any better learning than when you were a kid in a room with a chalkboard.
Vote down any school bonds--any bonds at all for that matter--until local citizens have had a chance to inspect how wisely their money has been spent and how well kids are actually doing.
