In Orwell’s 1984 there was no private property. Everyone was watched. Liberty was nonexistent. Big Brother redistributed the fruits of people’s labors. Timid, fearful people did their assigned tasks. News of a vague, distant war made constant headlines.
We are at a moment when truly people must consider the risk of ‘change’ and not just hope for a change. Some changes may be of the sort where it is said,
‘Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.”
Some changes are being proposed that--despite verbal political talk--would not be reversible at the next election. If there even is one. See the Obama Campaign page for more.
How many people do you want making you fill out paperwork to do anything?
How many people do you want to have to rely on for your bread and butter and opportunities? If you think Washington has done a good job and NCLB is a good thing, I pity you.
If you think the more we keep our curricular and policy decision-making and our money local, the better--good.
